Water and hydration - what you need to know

Water intake is one of our basic lifestyle guidelines, and for good reason. You are over 60% water!

Good hydration helps digestion, energy, cell function, mental acuity, detoxification and so much more. It really doesn’t matter how strictly you’re eating or how you’re training, if you’re not taking care of your water intake.

Hydration, however, is more than just total litres taken in during the day. It’s also important to consider how your body absorbs that water.

Consider mineral balance

The reason long distance athletes use electrolyte drinks is that they need to better absorb their water. Through sweat, we all lose electrolytes, and if we don’t replenish them, then your body will have difficulty utilising the water you drink.

Drink water throughout the day

Chugging water just challenges the kidneys to push water out quickly. Sip your water through the day, Some of our clients find it helpful to have an hourly reminder on their phone, or attach drinking a glass of water on the back end of existing habits.

How much should you drink a day?

The easiest way to calculate your water intake is the take your bodyweight in KGs and times that by 0.033. This will give you your starting water intake in ml, which you can increase or decrease based on activity and climate.

If you want to look younger, feel smarter and more energetic, have less pain or even get a PB, then it’s time you take care of your daily water intake.
